ARTIVISM SPOTLIGHT| Codex Express Yourself Fall 2020
CODEX EXPRESS YOURSELF: A BOOK EXHIBIT ONLINE!
Below images is the virtual showing of “Codex Express Yourself, Fall 2020 Edition” featuring one-of-a-kind artist books by Columbia College Chicago (CCC) undergraduate students enrolled in the Humanities, History and Social Science (HHSS) Dept. online course: HUMA121 “Latin American Art, Literature and Music” .
This virtual showing on tumblr is hosted by CCC students enrolled in this HHSS Dept. course with its instructor, Jesus Macarena Avila. Now, the wonderful art display can be experienced remotely (some books will be displayed at CCC’s Library located at their 1st floor entrance, 624 S. Michigan).
The artistic and cultural inspiration comes from the students’ learnt knowledge of Maya and Mexica (Aztec) literature plus Mexican artists and writers like Enrique Chagoya, Carlos Fuentes and local poet, Olivia Maciel. For artistic inspiration, a study of Chagoya’s codex-inspired work was done.
